Hophead vodka is the result of David King who began directing the distilling in 2011 and immediately thought to do something with the hops available on site. It is, as far as we know, the only vodka distilled from hops on the market.

Anchor Brewers & Distillers was founded as Anchor Brewing Company and is somewhat of an iconic beer brand, creating a great deal of enthusiasm for the craft-brewing movement in general. Anchor Distilling was established in 1993 to create specific, craft-distilled spirits as part of the company's overall portfolio.  The founding of the company is credited to Gottlieb Brekle--of German descent--in 1854, who later sold out to Ernst Baruth and Otto Schinkel in 1896, whose date appears on the bottles of beer to this day. They began bottling beer in 1969, greatly anticipating the microbrewery movement--and in 1993 opened its own distillery. Anchor recently sold to the Griffin Group in 2010, with Fritz Maytag remaining as "Chairman Emeritus." According to the March, 2013 interview in the Tasting Panel Magazine, are involved with 279 different craft spirits.
