Auchentoshan Distillery was established in the Dunbartonshire estate of Auchentoshan in 1823. Interestingly in March of 1941, three of the warehouses were destroyed by the German Luftwaffe bombing of the Clydebank area. Almost 1 million liters of whisky were lost, one of the truest forms of alcohol abuse. Over the years the distillery has changed hands many times. Most recently 1984 the distillery was acquired by Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, and was extensively refurbished taking care to retain its traditional production methods. Auchentoshan is one of only five Lowland Malt Whisky Distilleries and one of two that are still producing whisky.

The Auchentoshan distillery rests at the foot of the Old Kilpatrick Hills, sourcing its water from Cochna Loch located nearby. The distillery overlooks the famous River Clyde, which was once renowned as the Scottish gateway to the world. River Clyde has long been a busy transportation root for ships carrying both legal and illegal whisky from Clyde to the four corners of the Earth.
