Spring 44 Vodka is made from what they describe as a "proprietary blend of American-grown grain." It is filtered through a special "virgin coconut" carbon (charcoal) process (we don't quite know what a "virgin" coconut is (anyone heard of a sullied coconut?) but we guess it suggests not having been used in any other filtration process). They note that there is not one drop of "municipal" water in the vodka but 100% Rocky Mountain artesian water.
Spring 44 was founded by Jeff Lindauer, who had an annual tradition of drinking from a high mountain spring with his friends (over 9,000 feet!) at midnight. The taste and purity of the water gave rise to the name of their spirits. They use the Rocky Mountain spring water in their spirits, which they believe gives a unique quality to their flavor. While the label is owned by Spring 44 Distilling Company, the filing with the federal Tax and Trade Bureau (as of 2012) locates the source as the Temperance Distilling Company of Michigan, which we have noted here as the producer. Presumably, the recipe and water are delivered via Spring 44 for bottling in Michigan (prior filings suggest an Oregon source with Side Pocket Beverage).
